Packing Tips for Moving Day
Lindsay ~ 24 August 2006
Whether you’re up-sizing, down-sizing, or just getting away from annoying neighbors, you’ll inevitably have to move someday, and then you’ll start the home improvement process all over again. To make the act as painless as possible, and ensure all your valuables arrive intact, consider the following moving tips, which are provided by Moving Companies:
- Take your time and pack your belongings with care, especially fragile items. It’s a good idea to buy professional packing supplies when appropriate (such as divided dish or glass boxes that provide extra padding for kitchen items).
- Use smaller boxes for heavier items, instead of throwing everything into a big box. This will keep the overall weight down, so you don’t throw out your back trying to lift your boxes (remember to lift with your legs!)
- Don’t pack hazardous items, such as paint, thinners, oils, firearms and ammunition, propane, lamp oil, solvents, or anything flammable or explosive.
- To make things easier on you when you unpack, label boxes with the room they should go to (i.e. kitchen, master bedroom, den, etc.)
- Don’t let movers pack your family heirlooms, jewelry, or any items you consider priceless. If they’re lost or damaged, the insurance won’t likely meet the value you would place on the items. Instead, take them with you in the car, your luggage, etc.
