Lost Pets a Problem? Keep Track of Them More Easily

Lindsay ~ 17 June 2006

If you have one of those dogs that’s a master escape artist, you may spend a lot of time worrying about whether he or she is going to find a way out of the house or yard when you’re not looking. Global Pet Finder is a collar with an attached five-ounce device (including battiers), which uses GPS and two-way wireless technology to keep track of Fido at all times. To get started you map out a “fence” and if your dog goes outside the perimeter, the device will let you know, via the wireless device of your choice (i.e. cell phone, PDA, laptop, etc.). It will continually keep you updated on your pet’s location, until you’re able to catch up with him and take him home. You can “fence” up to five locations (i.e. the dog park or a family member’s house), including your own home. The collar costs about $300, and then there is an activation fee and monthly charge, much like a cell phone plan. I guess whether it’s worth the money depends on how often you’ve lost your dog lately!
