Timers for Your Lights
Timers for your lights are a good idea for home security purposes. If you go on vacation, you can fool burglars into thinking somebody’s home by having lights that go off and on after dark. (Burglars like an easy job, so they’re more likely to go to a house where they’re sure they won’t run into people.) Timers for the lights can also add convenience by allowing you to program things to turn on and off on their own. For instance, maybe you loathe the idea of coming home to a dark house. If you always get home from work around 7, you can program your lights to turn on a few minutes before you get home (of course, you can also buy keychains that will turn on your lights as you drive up). You can probably think of other reasons you might like those lights to go off and on automatically. The nice thing is that installing a timer isn’t a terribly big project, as far as home improvements go. Timer controls aren’t hugely expensive either. The wall timer shown here is $55 and is available from SmartHome: Leviton In-Wall LCD Timer
