Fiber Optic Stars on Your Ceiling

Lindsay ~ 1 April 2006

When I was a kid, I had a bunch of glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling (and my dad sure wasn’t happy when he tried to remove them years later, only to find the tacky backs removed the paint too). The stars were neat to a ten year old, but today’s technology can give you something that’s much better at simulating the real thing. Fiberoptics Technology Inc. sells a star ceiling kit so you can recreate the night sky in your bedroom or perhaps on the ceiling of your home theater. The system consists of PMMA (plastic) fiber in various diameters and a light source with “twinkle wheel.” It looks like something an adventurous do-it-yourself type could handle.
