Portable Induction Cooker–It’s Not Your Parents’ Hot Plate
Need to do a spot of cooking, but you’re not anywhere near a kitchen? Well, check out this portable induction cooker by Sunpentown. The cooktop element has nine levels or power, ranging from 120-420 degrees. Handy features like a timer, auto-shut off, and overheat protection make it relatively safe for use in the barracks or a college dorm room. Unlike cooking with an open flame or an electric heating element that gets dangerously hot, induction cooking uses electromagnetic energy to transfer heat directly to pots and pans–it won’t burn if you touch it. This does mean you need to use induction-compatible (ferrous) pots and pans with the unit. This portable cooker measures 12″ x 14″ x 2.5″ and is available in black or white. The price will run you $139.
