Bathroom Lighting Tips
Lindsay ~ 18 January 2006
If you’re renovating your bathroom, it’s important to remember lighting. Tips:
- A single source of light probably isn’t enough to perform all your lighting needs. Instead, try layers of ambient, task, decorative, and accent lighting.
- Use lighting to highlight the face at the mirror. “Fixtures placed 30 to 36″ apart on the vertical plane provide even illumination and minimize shadows”
- Skin tones look best under warm light, so try incandescent or fluorescent fixtures with color temperatures of 3500K or less.
- Consider dimming lights (Lights that slowly fade to ON are helpful for nighttime visits.)
- When considering decorative fixtures, avoid clear glass (produces glare) and colored glass (changes the color of the light reflecting on your face). Instead, try translucent lenses.
