Fossils in Your Countertops?
Lindsay ~ 10 June 2005
Looking for something unique for your bathroom or kitchen countertops? One of today’s trends is to use ancient stone cut to display fossilized fish. Both imitation fossils and the real deal are available for homeowners looking for the exotic. One vendor is the Green River Stone Co. whose freshwater limestone tiles feature fossil fish in 16×24 or 24×36 formats. They come from a 50-million-year-old fossil quarry that was the bottom of an inland sea during the Eocene period. The tiles come in either a smooth honed finish or a honed finish with the fossils partially excavated. Aside from countertops, the company does murals, tabletops, and floor tiles that feature the fish fossils.
